On a Windows PC, hold down the Shift key as i Tunes starts up to get the box for choosing an existing media library or creating a new one.

Mac users should hold down the Option key as i Tunes starts to see the same box.

Note: An important thing to note here is that you’ll need to connect the external media every time you open i Tunes for if not, the media files aren't going to show up.

If you open i Tunes without your external hard drive connected, i Tunes will give you an error message saying the "Library cannot be found." Quit i Tunes, connect the external hard drive and reopen i Tunes to fix.

Hold down the Shift key (or the Option key on a Mac) as you click the icon to start the i Tunes program. Click the Choose Library button, go through the navigation windows to the external drive and open the i Tunes folder you just copied. The program should open with your newly transferred collection.

Check over your library to make sure everything seems to be in order and play a few selections.
